As you are traveling through Manchester on your holiday, you might come across the Manchester Oxford Road railway station. This station can be seen on an elevated track between the Deansgate and Piccadilly stations. This train serves the southern portion of the center of Manchester city and connects both the Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester.

This station is on the lines that run from Manchester to Liverpool and Manchester to Preston. If you get on the train at this station, you are able to go to Sheffield, Leeds, Blackpool and Liverpool as well as other town in the Norther part of England. You can get off the train here and find cheap car hire so that you can investigate this area on your own.

This station was opened in 1849 and has waiting rooms, a ticket office, toilets, a buffet and newsagent and automatic ticket gates. During the 1950s this station became dilapidated and was then replaced by the building that is currently there in 1960. This new build was done in a style of concrete and wood with curves that are similar to the Sydney Opera House. The new building was reopened in September 1960 with five platforms in use today.
